The European Democratic Party is a new, ambitious project aiming to overcome the overwhelming inertia of 20th Century political activity, to gather the strongest political traditions from the last century and adapt these to contemporary times.

On the 50th anniversary of the Treaties, the necessity for a strong and unified Europe is evermore evident: one which is able to confront the challenges posed by globalisation, sustainabledevelopment and climate change; self-sufficient in energy, governance directed towards socialand economic growth, research and innovation, security, committed to the war against terrorismand organised crime and gaining control over migration and integration.

European citizens want a Europe with values and projects, is respectful of its nations' individualidentities, with real influence in the resolution of world conflicts and capable of defending and promoting its own common values.

This is the Europe that is central to our commitment; a new project, open and forward-looking, driven by the hopes and demands of European citizens and wishes to realise them.
